Sree Karthyayini Devi Temple is an ancient temple located on Mulavukad Island, with a history spanning over 400 years. It was originally the family deity of the Blavelil Karthas. In earlier times, the temple held 82 acres of land, but over the years, the Mooppile Kartha (chargeman of the temple) gradually sold most of the land, leaving only one acre. The temple was closed for about 40 years without performing any poojas during this period. In 1987, Babu Kartha, the then Mooppile Kartha, handed over the Sree Karthyayini Devi Temple and the adjacent Sri Padippurakkal Bhadrakali Temple (Keezh Kavu) to the Kerala Kshethra Samrekshana Samithy. Since then,
more daily poojas have resumed and continue smoothly. In 2003, the sanctum sanctorum of both temples was reconstructed, and the deity was re-consecrated (Punaprathistha) by the Thanthra Vidya Peedam of Aluva. Currently, there is a plan to reconstruct the surrounding structures (Chuttambalam), with an estimated cost of 30 lakh rupees. Devotees are encouraged to visit the temple, witness its condition, and contribute generously towards the reconstruction efforts.
