Sree Mariamman Bhagavathy Temple is located in Kallekulangara, within the Akathethara Panchayat of Palakkad Taluk. This sacred temple is situated about 1 km north of Palakkad Junction railway station. Devotees can alight at the Kallekulangara bus stop on the Olavakkot Dhoni route or at the Hemambika Temple bus stop on the Olavakkot - Malampuzha route. The temple's Presiding Deity is Sree Mariamman, while other deities include Ganapathy, Pechiamma, Sankilidevan, and Karuppaswamy. The temple embodies the divine forces of creation and destruction, represented through the form of Mother and Shakti (Strength). The communion of these aspects is vividly expressed in Sree Mariamman Bhagavathy of Kallekulangara. According to legend, around
more 30 families in the Kallekulangara area once followed Tamil customs and rites. One of their ancestors was a devout follower of Sree Mariamman Bhagavathy of Samayapuram in Trichy. He would visit Samayapuram every year to worship the goddess. As he grew older and could no longer make the journey, he prayed earnestly to the Goddess. In a dream, the Goddess appeared to him, assured him that he need not travel to Samayapuram, and promised that she would manifest near him. The Goddess instructed him to visit the temple site, clean himself, and dig the earth with a spade. She also foretold that milk would seep from the ground and that he should plant a sapling there and offer prayers with a lamp present. Following these instructions, he discovered milk at the site, planted an Arali sapling, and began worshipping the deity there.
