This temple is at Cherukunnam in Chadayamangalam Panchayath of Kollam district. Sree Parvahy Devi, Mother Goddess of the Universe and Kalliyankattu Neeli, the famous fierce Yakshi are together in a sisterly nature in this temple. Legend speaks about Kannanikonam Melaamkodu Devi temple, a subordinate temple of the Melamkodu temple in Tamil Nadu at Enikkara near Nedumangad in Thiruvananthapuram. An elder member of the family that was connected with the temple came to Cherukunnam from Enikkara. He used to worship Neeliyamma in his prayer room. As the Goddess became more powerful, Mutharamma and Neeliyamma were shifted to a temporary structure made with mud outside the house. As the presence more of the Goddesses became more and more powerful and subordinate deities also needed to be consecrated, consultations were held which revealed that the origin of this temple was at Melamkodu temple. The practice of getting permission from the older temple an Melamkodu before any festival continues even today.
