Sri Datta Anjaneya temple is situated at Desam on the banks of the holy river Periyar in Aluva. The temple can be reached easily from the NH47 from Aluva to Angamali by taking Swargam Road soon after crossing the Mangalapuzha Bridge and proceeding for about 200 meters. Another route to the temple is by taking a turn to Kalady from Desam Junction and taking a right turn after 200 meters. Devotees can also get down at the Kunnumpuram bus stop and come down through the road near Ananthapura Temple. There is a vast parking area for the vehicles of the
more devotees. They can also make use of the well-maintained wash rooms. The temple was established by Sri Ganapathy Sachidananda Swamiji, one of the greatest spiritual leaders of the present day. Head of the Avadhoota Datta Peetham in Mysore, Swamiji works for the popularization of an ancient musical tradition that is claimed to augment spiritual sadhana and cure ailments. He combines his music therapy with Ayurveda, Psychology, Gem therapy and astrology. The temple of Lord Sidharaja Dattatreya is built of stone on an elevated ground. The deity Sidharaja Dattatreya, was consecrated on March 18, 1991 by Sri Ganapathy Sachidananda Swamiji. The consecration of the idol of Maha Ganapathy was also performed on the same day. The idol of Karyasidhi Anjaneya was consecrated on December 13, 1999. Sidharaja Dattatreya, the union of Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesa, the guru of the Sage Parasurama, is depicted with Shankh (conch shell), Chakram (discuss), Damaru (small drum), Thrisul (trident), Kamandalu (water vessel), Kamadhenu (the divine cow) and the Abhaya Hasta (hand ready to save, console and redress). The idol is endowed with three faces, six eyes and six hands. On the left of the main temple is the temple of Maha Ganapathy, consecrated as showing the Abhaya Mudra, ready to remove all physical, mental and spiritual obstacles experienced by the devotees. On the right side is the temple of Karyasidhi Anjaneya. The idol of Anjaneya was made at Sucheendram and brought for consecration in a procession with receptions at various temples on the way. Along with the idol of Anjaneya in the sanctum sanctorum are Lakshmana, Sree Ramachandra and Seetha Devi. Innumerable devotees vouchsafe that the ardent prayers made before Karyasidhi Anjaneya become fruitful. The idol of Nagaraja is consecrated on the south west side of the temple. On 22nd April, 2001, the idols of Navagrahas were consecrated in front of the Anjaneya temple. A very special event was celebrated on 26th October, 2013 when Sri Ganapathy Sachidananda Swamiji consecrated an 18-foot Sri Vijaya Anjaneya idol at the Sri Data Anjaneya Kshetram. Kumbhabhishekam of Sri Karyasidhi Anjaneya was also performed during the festival from 24 th to 27th of October 2013.Pathala Anjaneya Prathishta: Paramapoojya SriSriSri Ganapathy Sachidananda Swamy graced us with His presence at the SRI DATTA ANJANEYA TEMPLE, DESOM, Kochi during Diwali, 2016. During the time Swamiji outlined his vision on the new projects to be undertaken at the Desom ashram. The Construction of the Pathala Anjaneya Temple was one of His most desired visions. The Desom ashram is already blessed with two unique forms of LORD ANJENEYA, through whose blessings we get peace, contentment and delight. The first form is Karya Siddhi Anjaneya, which is capable of destroying the sorrows and the sufferings of lakhs of His devotees. As a symbol of this victory, the second form, a 18-feet idol of Vijayanjeneya, was consecrated by Swamiji in December 2015. The idol symbolizes Viswaroopa and stands within the boundaries of nature with the sky and heavens as the limit. Swamiji has instructed us to have a third idol of Anjeneya at this temple called Pathala Hanuman. The Story of Pathala Anjaneya: The story behind this avatara dates back to the fight between Rama and Ravana. As there is no fighting during the nights in a dharma yudha, Lord Hanuman used to guard Sri Rama and Lakshmana when they used to rest at night. As a result of Ravana’s devious plans, Ahiravana (Mahiravana), disguised as Vibheeshna, stole Sri Rama and Lakshmana with his magical powers and took them to Pathala loka. When Lord Anjeneya got this information from the real Vibheeshana, he reduced his body, became tiny, entered Pathala, killed Ahiravana and saved Sri Rama and Lakshmana. This story of heroism and valour is narrated in Parasara Samhita (Sri Hanumath Charitham).Consecration of Pathala Anjaneya’s idol at Desom ashram: This tiny avathara of Lord Hanuman that is capable of liberating even Sri Rama and Lakshmana from the clutches of Ahiravana is prayed to as PATHALA ANJANEYA and will be consecrated at this temple. Thus, we hope to have three forms of Lord Hanuman to be worshiped as Sukshmarupa, Akasharupa and sthoola rupa. The sthoolarupa is symbolized by Karya Siddhi Hanuman-the one who grants all our wishes and answers all our prayers. The Akashrupa is symbolized by Vijaya Anjaneya Hanuman-the one who assures Victory to all. sukshma Rupa is symbolized by Pathala panchamukha Anjaneya-the one who removes all bad evils and bad curses.Requesting your prayers, contributions and donations: Avadhootha Datta Peetha Uttaradhikari Sri Sri Datta Vijayananda Teertha swamiji had graced the Aluva Datta Anjaneya kshetram from the 24th till the 27th of December, 2017 and laid the foundation stone for the temple. Our hope and effort are to build the temple for Pathala Anjaneya by october 2019. Such a divine effort needs the solid support of all devotees in Kerala. This is the first such deity to be installed in a temple in Kerala, and the only ashram outside the Mysore ashram to have the presence of this form.We request all devotees to donate liberally and wholeheartedly to this project and seek the blessings of Lord Hanuman. Daily Annadanam (free food) is offered in the temple. There are special Bhajans on Sundays. The temple also conducts music classes and music competitions and various other social events that cater to the development of Sanatana Dharma. The most important offering for Karyasidhi Anjaneya is the Mandala Nalikera Vratham (Special coconut pooja for 41 days). Devotees who perform Mandla Nalikera Vritham (Special coconut pooja) offer a coconut with husk to the temple which remains there for 41 days for poojas. On the 41st day, the devotees must reach the temple, get the coconut back and take it home as prasadam and consume it. The pooja fulfills all cherished wishes, removes obstacles and ends sufferings. This is the most famous offering at this temple. Another important offering is Venna Alamkaram. (Decoration of the idol of Anjaneya with butter). Vadamala* (a garland made of Vadas) is another important offering for Anjaneya.
