This ancient temple is at
Kuzhoor in Thrissur district. The temple was constructed by the Chera King,
Cheraladan. It is believed that Lord
Subrahmanya appeared before the King here and instructed him to consecrate the
Lord here at the time when the consecration was done at the famous Subrahmanya
temple at Palani. Hence devotees who cannot travel to Palani worship the Lord
here. The idol of Lord Subrahmanya is shown as holding a sheaf of writing
leaves and the sharp nail used for writing on it, in his hands. The Lord is
worshipped as Bala Murugan and Jyothishamoorthy. So, devotees believe that all
bad effects caused by

the position of the planets in one’s horoscope can be
cured by praying here. It is also believed that the evil effect of Planet Mars
which prevents one from getting married, can be cured by praying here for 12 Tuesdays.
The management of the temple was taken over by some Namboothiri families after
the time of the King. But there was a fight among the members and the office of
the temple was set ablaze. Many precious stones, gold ornaments, a gold peacock
weighing 4 kg. and the Vel, the weapon of the Lord were looted. Along with that
the copper plate on which the history of the temple had been engraved, was also
destroyed. The temple came to be under the Paliyath illam, the Cochin royal
family and is now under the Devaswom Board.
