This ancient temple is at Kuzhoor in Thrissur district. The temple was constructed by the Chera King, Cheraladan. It is believed that Lord Subrahmanya appeared before the King here and instructed him to consecrate the Lord here at the time when the consecration was done at the famous Subrahmanya temple at Palani. Hence devotees who cannot travel to Palani worship the Lord here. The idol of Lord Subrahmanya is shown as holding a sheaf of writing leaves and the sharp nail used for writing on it, in his hands. The Lord is worshipped as Bala Murugan and Jyothishamoorthy. So, devotees believe that all bad effects caused by
more the position of the planets in one’s horoscope can be cured by praying here. It is also believed that the evil effect of Planet Mars which prevents one from getting married, can be cured by praying here for 12 Tuesdays. The management of the temple was taken over by some Namboothiri families after the time of the King. But there was a fight among the members and the office of the temple was set ablaze. Many precious stones, gold ornaments, a gold peacock weighing 4 kg. and the Vel, the weapon of the Lord were looted. Along with that the copper plate on which the history of the temple had been engraved, was also destroyed. The temple came to be under the Paliyath illam, the Cochin royal family and is now under the Devaswom Board.
