This temple is one of the district's ancient Vaishnavite temples, believed to have been consecrated by Villwamangalath Swamiyar. Often mistakenly referred to as the Sree Vallabha Temple, the deity here closely resembles the Sree Vallabha Temple in Thiruvalla. Notably, the same Namboodiri families (Mecheri, Vilakkinimangalam, and Ilamon) who managed the Thiruvalla temple also administered this. It is believed that between 1400 and 1500 A.D., Kannasa Madhava Panicker translated the Bhagavad Gita into Malayalam while residing and worshipping at the temple. This translation is recognized as the first of the Bhagavad Gita in any Indian language. Historical records indicate that the temple was renovated in 1795 A.D. Interestingly, until
more recently, women devotees were not permitted to enter the temple.
