Kodamkulangara Sree Dharma Shastha Temple

History

This temple is at Thripunithura in Ernakulam District. Though no authentic documents are available, the history of the temple can be discovered from the memory of the elders of the place. It is believed that about 800 years ago, the place where the temple stands today had a hermitage of a Yogi. He worshipped Lord Shastha and the Lord appeared before him at the place where the temple stands today. So, the Yogi consecrated the Lord at that spot.  In the beginning, there was only a platform on which the idol had been consecrated.  It was during the reign of Shakthan Thampuran as the Maharaja more of Kochi that the sanctum was built. It was a committee of the devotees that looked after the management of the temple. In 1980 a committee under the name Shastha Bhajana Samajam was formed for the management of the temple. Lord Dharma Shastha is the main deity, facing the east.  Lord Ganapathy is consecrated as the subordinate deity. The Yogi who established the temple is also consecrated there.
