This ancient temple is at Pulamanthol in Malappuram District. It is believed to be the place where Oudambara Maharshi sat in penance. Lord Siva appeared before him and blessed him with eternal life and the presence of Ganga throughout the year. The water that comes through a hole, falls into the pond. The water never dries up even in summer. The temple was originally named Guruvambalam as the Guru, the Maharshi, had performed the consecration. Later it became Kuruvambalam through usage. The water collected from the pond is used for anointing the Lord. The idol is consecrated on a double platform and a re-consecration is not
more possible. The consecration is as Mruthyunjaya. The huge, round sanctum in its majestic form even today speaks of the grandeur of the temple in earlier times. Ganapathy, Shasthaav and Dakshinamoorthy are consecrated as subordinate deities and Brahma rakshas outside the premises. There is an ancient Elanji tree in front of the temple which is believed to be the abode of a Gandharva. Gandharva pooja is offered once a year. Many artists perform in this temple and believe that they get blessed for better performance. Koothu is performed for seven days by the members of the Ammannoor family.
