This ancient temple is at Sreekariyam in Thiruvananthapuram. The temple is associated with the Namboothiri known as the Chempazhanthi King who lived a thousand years ago. In those days the area where the temple stands was a forest. This area was under the control of the Chempazhanthi King. Once the King and his entourage rested there while they were on a journey. As they were having food seated under a tree, they heard the flute played by Lord Krishna coming from the branches of the tree. Realising the presence of the Lord there, the King built a temple for the Lord there. It took almost
more four years for the construction of the temple to be completed. The idol of the Lord made in black stone was consecrated there. After his time, his descendants looked after the temple. Later it came to be under the Pottis of Sreekariyam. This happened 1100 years ago, showing that the temple was in existence a long time before that.
