The Varakkara Sree Bhagavathy Temple, situated in Thrissur district, echoes the spiritual ethos of the Goddess at Urakam, portraying the radiance under a protective canopy. According to legend, as Sree Bhagavathy traversed the land, a devout observer, mistaking her for a noblewoman, offered her water from a tender coconut. Refreshed and rejuvenated, she decreed her luminosity to remain there for the welfare of her devotees. Varakkara derives its name from the land (Kara) blessed (Varam) by her presence. The devotee, forever enchanted by the encounter, was enshrined as Gurumuthappan within the temple. Initially following the Kaula system of worship, the temple later transitioned to the rituals
more befitting a Maha Kshethra. The devout offerings from royal families and Brahmins further enriched the temple's spiritual ambience. Upholding the principles advocated by Sree Narayana Guru, the temple administration adheres to his counsel in its operations. Today, the Varakkara Bhagavathy Kshethra Yogam, comprising over 1200 families, oversees the temple's management, fostering a vibrant community dedicated to worshipping the divine.
