This temple is at Karuvatta in Kumarapuram of Alapuzha district. The main deity is Sree Durga, consecrated facing the east in a sanctum without a roof. The Goddess is worshipped as Vanadurga. The place where the temple stands today was once a forest. The original, self-originated idol is in a well, below the level of the ground. There is the presence of Jaladurga in the pond on the northwestern side of the temple. So pooja is offered in the pond also. The pond is drained in the old-fashioned way by using only manpower. This is done only after getting divine approval through astrological consultation. To drain the
more pond the permission of 14 localities nearby is also sought. While doing this the idol of Jaladurga in the middle of the pond is removed.
