This temple is at Pattayakudi I, Venmani, Idukki District. Panchamala and the neighbouring areas are believed to be blessed by the presence of Pandavas. Panchalithodu, the stones used by Bheema to make a hearth for cooking and Meen oliyan para are all remnants of that era. The place where the temple stands today was a thick forest with huge serpents in ancient times. The Rishis used to worship Devi and the self-originated Mahadeva who existed here. The temple was destroyed by the passage of time. The forest dwellers who came to stay here later felt the presence of the divine at this place and offered Shaktheya
more poojas. The Thanthric, Brahmasree Satheesan Bhattathiripad performed the consecration of the temple we see today. As he saw the strong presence of the Nagas, he suggested the ritual of Puttatavu from the 15th of Edavam to the Ayilyam star in the month of Kanni. This is one of the very few temples where this ritual is performed.
