Sree Thripurayar Mahadeva Temple

History

This temple stands on the banks of the river Poorna in Chovvara of Ernakulam District. It is believed to be more than 5000 years old. It is believed that ascetics used to perform penance here thereby making it a sacred place. Rishis of old is believed to have said that worshipping in this temple just once in a lifetime is enough to acquire blessings for all the lives one may have. When Kings ruled our country, the Kings of Kochi and Thiruvithamkoor used to worship here with their families. The round sanctum has a huge Sivalinga consecrated in it. Lord more Siva and Parvthy are consecrated as Ardhanaareswara, as they appeared as Kirathas before Arjuna. There is Ganapthy inside the sanctum facing the south, which is considered very rare. Lord Dakshinamoorthy also is believed to be present here. On the northern side of this temple is the temple of Maha Vishnu, facing the east.
