Maangaanam was in Kaadamuri,
one of the 64 famous villages of Kerala in ancient times. The Narasimhaswami
Temple here was the most important as well as the most ancient in this
area. Though exact details of the history of this temple have not been recorded,
it is believed to have been established in the 8th or 9th century. Upon deciphering the writing on the floor of
the sanctum, historians and archaeologists have expressed the opinion that the
sanctum was reconstructed in granite in the 11th century.
