Maangaanam was in Kaadamuri, one of the 64 famous villages of Kerala in ancient times. The Narasimhaswami Temple here was both the most important and the most ancient in this area. Although exact details of the history of this temple's establishment have not been recorded, it is believed to have been built in the 8th or 9th century. Upon deciphering the writing on the floor of the sanctum, historians and archaeologists have expressed the opinion that the sanctum was reconstructed in granite in the 11th century.
