It is believed that more Sree Dakshinamurthy teaches through para vak, a form of divine speech inaudible to worldly ears, residing in the depths of silence. His teachings do not rely on ordinary expressions, yet they reveal the true meaning of Brahman naturally. His disciples are ancient Rishis and sages, and He imparts the greatest awareness, understanding, and comprehension. The name Dakshinamurthy also signifies "the one who is facing the south" (Dakshina). He is depicted sitting under the auspicious vata vruksha (banyan tree), facing south, to impart knowledge. Sree Dakshinamurthy guides the cyclical processes of Srishti (creation), sthiti (preservation), samhara (destruction), tiro bhava (concealment), and anugraha (grace). In Indian tradition and culture, the teacher (Guru) is revered much like God. Sree Dakshinamurthy is worshipped as the ultimate Guru who truly illuminates the world with cosmic knowledge that enlightens the soul.
