This is one of the rare and most famous Parabrahma temples, situated in the Alapuzha district of Kerala. People from all religions worship here and the place stands as a testimony of religious harmony. The name Padanilam in Malayalam refers to the battle ground and the origin of this place of worship is associated with the pain felt by all at the killing of men in the name of battles between two sections. The leaders of the northern and southern parts of Nooranad realised that battles will only lead to irreparable loss to mankind. They met under the leadership more of the ruler of Pazhoor and decided to put an end to this endless series of battles. The land had been destroyed and the people suffered not just from the killing of the soldiers but also from the poverty and diseases that came in its wake. The people of the 100 (nooru) smaller areas came together to propitiate the Parabrahma that resided in that area and as per astrological instructions made it a consecrated temple ground. There is no sanctum or idol but the power Sadasiva is consecrated under the banyan tree. The remnants of the battles are seen as a remainder of the olden times. On the 1st of the Malayalam month of Vrischikam, the people of the north and west of Nooranad meet at this ground. The oil used for lighting the lamp on that day is given by a family belonging to the St. Thomas Orthodox Church there which gesture stands as an everlasting example of the religious harmony.
