There is no documental evidence to decide the antiquity of this temple. It is believed that it was established around 2500 years ago. Parasurama is believed to have performed the consecration in a village of the Brahmins. The main consecration is Naga Raja and Naga Yakshi, consecrated on the stone paving over a well inside the sanctum. It is opposite the Sree Lokanar kavu Vishnu temple. As Memunda Madom and Maniyoor Madom belonged to the Thaliparambu Namboothiri Gramam, the name Madom is attached to the temple. Later the Namboothris left the place and the temple came under the Kadathanadu Valiya Raja.
