According to legend, when the site of the
Sasthamangalam Mahadeva Temple was still grassland, a woman sharpening her
knife on a rock noticed that it began to bleed. Further investigation revealed that the rock was a Shiva lingam, which was then consecrated.
Subsequently, a temple was constructed around this sacred spot. The
Sasthamangalam Mahadeva Temple is an ancient Hindu temple located in the
Sasthamangalam ward of Thiruvananthapuram Municipal Corporation, Kerala, India.
Situated on a hilltop away from the city centre, it promotes the spiritual tranquillity
of the shrine. According to available records, the temple is over 700 years old
and was a regular place of
more
worship for the Kings of Travancore. The temple is
administered by the Travancore Devaswom Board.
