This temple is situated at Kozhuvamkulam, 2.5km from Cherppunkal on the Ettumanoor- Pala highway in Kottayam district. The area where the temple stands is full of green grassland, ancient banyan trees, coconut trees, Pala trees and many medicinal plants. This ancient temple has two flagposts. In the forest that existed in the place where the temple stands today, a Yogi sat in penance in a cave, praying to Vishnu. The shine that existed there was contained in a temple built slightly to the north of the present temple. The pond in front of the temple was a huge chira. As the Lord was consecrated before the chira,
more devotees referred to Him as Chirakkal Devan. Later the royal family who looked after the temple handed it over to the Brahmins who came from the nearby village of Shukapuram. As the other families lost their prominence, the management of the temple came to rest on the Ilangath illam who are still in charge of it.
