Plakkadu is in Adichanalloor in Kollam District. The Bhadrakali Temple at Plakkadu in Adichanalloor in Kollam District is known as the Kalari Kshethram or the Moorthikavu Kshethram. The temple belonged to the famous Palavila Family. The Devi was the family deity, present in the temple in the form of a holy pedestal, lamp, silken cloth and a sword, was worshipped by the members of the family. The people living nearby used to light the lamps here every day. Some of the members of the family took the initiative to build it up as a temple. This is mentioned in the
more partition deed of the family made in 1931. It was only in 1994 that the temple as it exists today was built. The consecration was performed on 1st April 1994. The structure surrounding the Sanctum was built in 2015 and the Sanctum for Dharma Sastha and the other sub deities was completed in February 2019. All these developments were with the help of the members of the family, other devotees and the people living in the area. One of the most important offerings here is the dedication of Pattu (silk cloth). This was revived four years ago after a long absence. Now it is performed every Sunday and there are many people who come to offer this from far and near. On that day devotees can light lamps for various blessings. This offering is made at seven in the morning. Kumkuma Vilakku is offered for getting a good marriage alliance. Lamp with ghee is lighted for educational or professional progress, begetting children, employment abroad, prosperity of the family, progress in business and the destruction of all negativity in the house. Devotees have started referring to the Goddess here as Pattuchoodal Kavilamma or Pattukettu Kavilamma as the belief in the strength of the Pattu (silk cloth) offering has become stronger among devotees. In the Dharma Sastha Temple Neeranjanam is offered to propitiate Saturn. On the day of star Ayilyam, there are special offerings which are believed to bless the devotees with children, prosperity and protection from serious diseases. Some other offerings that can be made include Ganapathy Homam for the removal of obstacles, lighting a Naranga Vilakku on Fridays for propitiating the planet Rahu, and for the removal of obstacles in getting a good marriage alliance. Saturday Jaladhara for Madan Swamy to attain prosperity and peace of mind and Mruthyunjaya Homam for Sastha for cure from diseases are also performed here. The annual three-day Festival is conducted on the day of star Aswathy in the month of Meenam. The offering made on that day has now become world famous. Young men get dressed up as girls and present themselves before the deity, holding lamps (Chamayavilakku), to attain the blessings of the Goddess. Gurusi is performed on the third day for prosperity in the coming years and the removal of all evil forces. The temple will remain closed for seven days after that ritual. The Palavila family Kudumba Yogam is regularly conducted on the 1st May every year.
