According to legends, this temple has consecrated the idol that was worshipped by Namboothiris who travelled from Travancore to Kochi centuries ago. The place remained neglected and covered with vegetation for a long time. The local people informed the ruler of Kottayam about this and the Namboothiris of Kulambur who were dependents of Kottayam Thampuran renovated the temple and started regular poojas. It was Lord Vishnu depicted with four arms who was worshipped here. Later the right to conduct the poojas was given to those who came to settle there from the Swarnathu mana of Perumbavoor. The Poonjaar royal family allowed land free of tax to the
more temple. They also renovated the temple. But lately, the temple was again on the brink of ruin. In 2020 Amarkulam Sreekrishna Swamy Temple Trust was formed by the people of the locality. The temple has been rebuilt and all rituals are performed according to tradition.
