Kalathil Bhagavathy Temple

History

This temple is situated at Kumbalam, 500 meters from the Toll plaza at Kumbalam on the Kochi Bypass road. This temple has Durga devi consecrated in the self-originated form. Formerly it was known as Kulathil Bhagavathy because the sanctum was constructed in the manner in which bath room (kulappura) was built in some high-class family houses. During the rainy season, the idol inside the sanctum will be immersed in water for many days. As it is believed that Karthika is the star of the Bhagavathy, offering food and lighting lamps on that day at the temple is considered a special offering. Other special days are the more nirayum puthariyum in Chingam, the poojas offered three times a day during the month of Vrischikam and Ashtadravya Ganapathy homam with 1008 coconuts held in Krarkidakam, which are all famous among devotees.
