Palunkilappan was consecrated in the 15th century. In the writing on the platform of Parappatta Thevar, it is said to have been more consecrated in the 16th century. The Kavu for the serpents transferred from the Kilimangalam mana compound and consecrated in the temple compound is believed to be more than 1000 years old. It is infrequent to have three consecrations of Sivan and one of Vishnu in the same temple as it is seen here. The idol of Palunkilappan is made of the smooth stone found in the Himalayas. Thekke Thevar is Vishnu as Narasimha Moorthy. This sanctum faces the west. It is believed that, to calm down the fierce Narasimha Moorthy, Panjaalappan was consecrated facing the east.
