The temple is at Arippa on the border between Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam districts on Thiruvananthapuram Thenkashi road. It is a very ancient temple which had been destroyed as the people moved away from there. The area then became a forest. Later after the arrival of the foreigners, the people came back to live here and the remnants of the ancient temple were discovered. The forest was cleared and reconstruction of the temple took place on many occasions. The main deity consecrated here is Umamaheswara. Nagas and Brahmarakshas are also consecrated here. The temple is believed to be very powerful as the sanctum faces the forest on the east.
