Manikyapuram Ayyappankavu Temple

History

The Manikyapuram Ayyappankavu Temple stands proudly in Angadipuram, renowned as a temple city within Malappuram District, Kerala. Dedicated to the warrior deity Ayyappa, depicted with bow and arrow in hand, and accompanied by a horse as his Vahana (vehicle), known as Aswaroodan, this temple holds prominence across Kerala. Its most revered ritual, the Karyasadhya pushpanjali, attracts devotees from far and wide every Saturday and Wednesday, serving as a major highlight. Inside the temple, a notable feature is a rock-carved elephant placed in front of the deity, measuring approximately 1 meter in height, 1 meter in length, and 0.5 meters in breadth. Additionally, various sculptures of elephants, tigers, more and other animals around the main shrine, or sreekovil, hint at the temple's ancient origins, suggesting it to be a jungle temple. Legend has it that the temple was constructed by revered saints like Narayanathu Brandan, ensuring eternal spiritual vibrancy in its sacred precincts.
