Puthukkulangara Devi Temple

History

This temple on Ettumanoor- Vaikom road at Manjoor is believed to be more than 300 years old. Durga Devi and Bhadra Devi are consecrated here with equal importance. Legend says an ascetic invoked the Goddess from the Puthukulangara Devi temple at Kunnumpuram of Edappally in Ernakulam and blessed her at Manjoor. But the priests who continued to offer poojas there invoked Goddess Bhadra through mantras. So, both the Goddesses came to have equal importance there.  When the ascetic left, he gave the temple to the local people.  It was the Nair Karayogam that maintained the temple for some time.  In those times the temple had around 3 more acres of land and there was a Pala tree in which the presence of Yakshi was felt. But that land was lost. Puthukulangara Devaswom Trust was formed to renovate and maintain the temple. Two separate sancta were built for the two Goddesses. Ganesha, Shaasthaav, Nagas, Navagrahas and Yakshi were consecrated as subordinate deities.
