There was a custom under which the ruler of Edapally personally supervised the festivals of certain temples under him. Thus, once he had gone to Thrikkunnapuzha for the festival of the Shastha temple there. On the night before the last day of the festival, the Goddess appeared in a dream before the Thampuran and expressed her desire to be taken to the area where Lord Ganapathy was consecrated in the Palace. After astrological consultations, he carried the idol with him to Edappally. As he was moving forward after getting down from the boat, the idol fell from his hands. He
more constructed a temple at that spot and consecrated the idol there. As per another legend, the ruler was in the habit of carrying the idols o Ganapathy and Bhagavathy when he travelled and it was this idol that fell down there. The temple still stands exhibiting the royal glory in its construction.
