Mujungavu Sree Parthasarathy Temple

History

The Sree Parthasarathy Temple in Kasaragod is renowned for its spiritual significance. Among its revered temples stands Kavu, also known as Mujungavu or Mujungare, located approximately 5 kilometres east of Kumbla. This temple is dedicated to Sri Parthasarathy Krishna, the presiding deity. Adjacent to the temple lies a vast lake, revered for its sanctity, often likened to the holy Kaveri. Legend has it that the sage Muchukunda undertook rigorous penance at this site, ultimately establishing the temple. The association of his name with the place adds to its sacred aura. On the auspicious occasion of Tula Sankramana, devotees throng to the temple in large numbers. They ceremoniously more bathe in the holy lake and offer prayers to the Lord. It is believed that the water of this lake possesses unique healing properties, particularly effective against skin diseases. Devotees express their reverence by offering handfuls of rice and horse gram into the holy waters, circumambulating the tank, and then proceeding to the temple for worship. Sri Parthasarathy Krishna is believed to fulfil the desires of his devotees, bestowing upon the temple its esteemed reputation.
