Kambilly Dharma Shastha Temple is the only temple that belongs to the Alangatt Yogam. This temple is situated at Muppathadam in Paravur taluk of Ernakulam district. As there is a close relationship between Alangatt Yogam and the Sabarimala temple, this temple is also connected with the Sabarimala temple. Sree Kambilly Sankaran, the commander in chief of the Pandalam royal family and Lord Ayappa, is believed to have formed the Alangattu yogam. Before he set out to fight against the Marava army, Lord Ayyappa gave him a flag and a staff with the insignia of the Royal house. Then before Ayyappa dissolved into Lord Dharmashastha, he more gave the commander an idol for his worship. After Ayyappa had joined Dharmashastha, Kamblly Shankaran reached home with the flag, staff and idol. He started worshipping the three things kept at his family house. Whenever Commander Shankaran travelled anywhere, he used to carry the staff with him. On the 1st of the Malayalam month of Vrischikam, the holy objects would be placed in the forecourt of the house and all those who belonged to the Alangatt yogma would wear the sign for going to Sabarimala. On the 18th of the Malayalam month of Dhanu, the members of the Yogam would start walking to Sabarimala. Kambilly Shankaran and his group are received with special rituals at Sabarimala. He came to be known as Velichappad later on. Now all the male members have their name preceded by Shankaran in his memory. At one time when there were no male members in the Kamilly family, the idol, staff and flag were taken to the Vazhappanali family house which was connected with the Kambilly house. Later when a boy was born it was brought back to Kambilly. Erumely petta, and Pamba vilakk, following the ornaments to be used for adorning Lord Ayyappa, are some of the rituals in which members of the Alamgattu yogam have to take part. During the devastating floods of the last century in Kerala, the Kambilly house was destroyed. But the idol, staff and the flag were recovered from the holy abode of the serpents nearby. A small temple was built at the place where they were found. The poojas were performed by the members of the Kambilly family. This later became the Alangattu Yogam Kambilly Sree Dharma Shastha Temple. This temple was renovated in 1982 with the support of the local people who formed a Trust for it. Today Brahmins conduct the poojas and rituals here.
