This temple at Melmuri in Malappuram District is one of the most important temples in the district. It is believed to be more than 3500 years old. The remains of an ancient temple were seen in the metal quarry. It is on a 300-foot-high rock. It is surrounded by forests and the of serpents present there are believed to be standing guard at the temple. There is a huge, rare tree, Kaashaaval that stands towering over the temple. Lord Siva is worshipped here. The six-and-a-half-foot-high Shivalinga is self-manifested. There is a huge hall where the distribution of food is conducted.
