Sreenarayanapuram Temple Kannur

History

This temple, otherwise known as Paroor temple, is situated at Nituvappuram village on the northern end of Kannur District. It’s believed that hundreds of years ago, there was a Mahavishnu temple at Paroor near Mathamangalam. When this temple deteriorated, the Brahmin family who owned that temple donated the idol of Mahavishnu to the Brahmins of Nituvappuram. They built a temple at Nituvappuram in Karivelloor and consecrated that idol there. This continued to be the temple of twelve Brahmin families there. By 1975 as the temple had become dilapidated, a committee of the local people took over the administration of the temple. When the Brahmins managed the temple, more the recital of the Vedas was the most prominent ritual here. Now it has been replaced by the festival and Sapthaham, the recital and explanation of Bhagavatham in seven days.
