The temple is believed to be
more than 500 years old. The legend about the consecration of the Goddess here
is connected with Karakkattachan, the eldest member of the Vandazhi Veluthakkal
family. When he was returning after visiting the King of Palaghat, the presence
of the Goddess was seen in his palm leaf umbrella at the side of a pond at
Mutappaloor. This Goddess was consecrated at this temple.
