Sanmargasandayini Ananathasayaneswaram temple is at Thanneermukkam in Alapuzha. It is believed that in the Malayalam Era 1085, Sree Narayana Guru arrived at Muhamma and stayed in the ancient family house of Chirappanchira while travelling for the fulfilment of the desire to complete the construction of the Advaitha ashrama. At that time, he prayed for the cure of Eli Amma, the ailing wife of the elder-most member of the Kayipuram Kuravakkat family. Then he came to the Kayipuram Kuravakkaatt house and removed all the idols of Nagas that were placed around the house, and immersed them in the Vembanad lake. The lady was cured. At that time
more the elders of the prominent families of that area requested Guru to show them a suitable place to build a temple where they could worship. Guru went with the men to the land owned by the Kiliyamveli family. At that time, he saw a holy kite circling above that area in the sky and realised the presence of Mahavishnu there. He found a place to build a Bhajana Madom there. He advised Eli Amma to plant a banyan tree there and circumambulate it daily. That banyan tree can be seen in front of the temple today. As time passed all the Hindus staying in that area wanted it to be converted into a temple. So Sree Ananathasayaneswara was consecrated in a temple in 1998. This is believed to be the only such consecration apart from the one at Padmanabhaswamy temple in Thiruvananthapuram.
