Pandalam Mahadeva Temple

History

The Pandalam Mahdevar Kshethram is one of the 108 Siva temples in Kerala established by Sage Khara. This ancient temple is situated on the banks of the Achankovil river. This is the only temple which has the path for circum-ambulation that covers only ¾ of the temple structure. The river flows touching the Namaskara Mandapa on the north eastern side. The main deity is Mahadeva. Ganapathy, Mayayakshiyamma, Shaasthaav, Nagaraja,  Subrahmanya, Brahmarakshas, and Rakshas are the sub deities. The temple originally belonged to the Edappally Swaroopam. It was managed by the ruler of Edappally with the support of Kulakkada Nambi madham, more Njettoor Vaazhuveli Madham, Thottakkonam Mannil Madham and Venmani Kallaman  madham. The temple had vast landed property and the expenses of the temple could be managed with the income from that. But after the Land Reforms Act of 1969 all the land was lost. Then the Hindu representatives of 12 areas around the temple formed Pandalam Mahadeva Hindu Seva Samithy and took over the management of the temple.  The Samithy has been conducting the rituals and festivals in a grand manner and also adding to the infrastructure of the temple.  Some charity service is also undertaken by the Samithy.
