Surya Narayana Temple in Kadirur holds significant prominence as a Hindu temple located 8 kilometers from Thalassery. The name "Kadirur" is derived from "Kadiravapuram," meaning "the land of the Sun." Legend has it that the temple's origins date back to the time of the Ramayana. It is believed that during his quest for Goddess Sita in Lanka, Lord Rama consecrated idols of Lord Subramanya in the Makreri and Peralassery temples. Upon learning of this, the Vedic Brahmins residing in Kadirur engaged in deep meditation. Moved by their devotion, Lord Rama graced Kadirur with his presence and bestowed his blessings upon them. Sensing the divine presence of more the Sun God in the region, Lord Rama installed the idol of Lord Surya Narayana at this sacred site.
