Situated approximately 4.5 kilometres east of Kozhikode city along the left side of Mavoor Road leading to Mavoor via Medical College, Kollangott Sri Ayyappa Temple boasts a history believed to span a millennium. According to local tradition, until around 150 years ago, the temple was vibrant with daily rituals, annual festivals featuring elephants, and various special ceremonies. However, there are no definitive records available to document the temple's history. The temple's rich past is hinted at by various features, including the sculptures of Dwarapalakas adorning the temple walls, a temple tank perennially filled with water even during the summer months, and nearby landmarks such as 'Anackancery more Parambu', purportedly used for elephant accommodation, and Manitthara, now within the KSEB Substation compound, believed to have been the temporary residence of the deity before the Aarattu ritual. A unique aspect of this temple is the presence of three deities of equal importance in the Sanctum Sanctorum. Notably, the shrine houses the self-manifested idols of Lord Shiva and Parvathy. Additionally, Lord Dharmasastha, accompanied by his consorts Poornadevi and Pushkaladevi, continues to bestow blessings upon devotees alongside Lord Shiva and Sreeparvathy.
