Pera Bhagavathy Temple

History

Situated in the panoramic plains amidst the Machad-Vazhani hills, approximately 15 kilometres away from Thrissur Town, the Sree Pera Bhagavathy Temple is renowned as the "Southern Khalighat." Nestled in Perayil Village, this celestial temple holds significance as the prime goddess for the people in and around the region, who seek blessings from the divine idol carved from the sacred "Krishnasila" and installed beneath an ancient Poovam Tree. Legend has it that this sacred idol was consecrated by a great Maharshi around 1500 years ago. Over the years, however, the idol suffered deterioration, leading to a period of famine and hardship in the village. To overcome their challenges more and attain peace and prosperity, the villagers began worshipping the goddess after taking a holy bath in the nearby stream flowing beside the sacred idol. Under the guidance of Brahmashri Manapuzha Raman Namboothiripad, an Ashttamangalya Prasnam, or astrological findings, was conducted. Based on the results, Brahmashri Chennas Dinesan Nampoodirippad was appointed as the Kshetram Thantri on April 16, 2003. Following this, a trust named "Shree Perayil Bhagavthy Kshetra Saramkshana Samaithy" was established with equal rights granted to approximately 250 families within the temple's vicinity. Driven by profound devotion to Kshetra Samrakshana Samaithy, the community undertook various projects to rejuvenate the temple premises. With the wholehearted support of devotees of Goddess Perayil Bhagavathy, these initiatives were completed step by step, contributing to the continued reverence and significance of the Sree Pera Bhagavathy Temple
