Sree Chakrapani Mahavishnu Temple

History

This temple is situated at Trikkaripur in Kasaragod district. Legend says that once when Sage Agasthya visited Vaikundam, the abode of Maha Vishnu, he was given an idol of the Lord with four hands. He was advised to worship the idol according to prescribed rites. Legend has it that the idol was worshipped by Pushkara Brahmanar a resident of Kanchipuram. The idol was retrieved by him from the nearby pond, called Thamarakulam. Once when Narda and Devendra visited Pushkara they were attracted by the power of the idol. Devendra advised him to consecrate it at a bigger sanctum. more When Pushkara was sleeping, Devendra took the idol and hid it in the Padmatheertha in front of the Chakrapani temple. Pushkara was saddened by the loss and started austerities to retrieve it. As directed by Maha Vishnu he followed the path lined by flowers. He reached the pond with lotus flowers. As he stayed there in penance he witnessed Devendra coming there to worship in the pond. This pond is believed to be the place where Mahavishnu blessed Gajendra with salvation. As advised by Sage Narada the idol was taken out and consecrated in the temple built by Parasurama.
