This temple, situated in the heart of
Thiruvananthapuram at Nellanjiyoorkonam is believed to be more than 700 years
old. In the earlier times, the Goddess was kept in a room in the house and this
led to the name Arappura. There is a small rock, Para on the southwestern corner of the temple
where the Goddess was worshipped in the beginning. The local people had a
strong belief in the efficacy of prayers to the power of the Goddess here in
saving them from calamities. So, they decided to construct a temple for the
Goddess. In 1976 Maha Ganapathy was consecrated and in 1980
more
Nagas were
consecrated. In 1981 rituals were started in the partially completed
temple. Then the owners handed over the
temple premises to a trust for the running of the temple. In 1992 the
construction of the Devi temple was completed and re-consecration was carried
out. In the year 2000, the temple for Mahaganapathy was constructed.
