Historical documents show that this temple is hundreds of years old. The temple was originally at Val Vecha Goshdam near Thakkala. The Madathil veedu there belonged to the warrior clan. The temple and the family members who managed the temple are still there. The members of the family of warriors who had gone to help Maharaja Marthandavarma in the war lost their lives. The women of the family, with the children, came to Thiruvananthapuram, with whatever little money they had and started living at Palkulangara. From there they came to what is today known as Sreekaryam. They bought eight acres and 86 cents there more from the Arya tribe. The Aryans used to conduct poojas for Maha Vishnu, Sree Rama and Maha Lakshmi there. Once the Padmanabhaswamy temple became prominent, the Aryans shifted from Muttamparambu to that area. The Nair families who bought the land there brought their ancestral deity, Vana Durga, in the deer's horns and kept it in the temple of Sree Krishna at Puliyorkodu. The deity used to be taken to the family house yearly for the poojas. Later it was found that the presence of Vana Durga had been established at the temple at Muttamparambu and she was consecrated there.
