Kurampala Puthenkavil Bhagavathy Temple

History

Puthenkavil Devi temple is situated on the Pandalam-Adoor route at Kurampala in Pathanamthitta district. It is an ancient temple with its own variety of ritualistic practices. Kurampala is about 4 kms south to Pandalam and the temple is situated half a kilometer west to the main road facing eastwards. There is a Kavu around the temple, full of herbs, creepers and huge trees resembling a miniature forest. The presiding deity is Bhadrakali in her fierce mood and the idol is six feet tall. Sub deities are Yakshi and Marudha. Poojas are offered twice in a day, following Thazhman Tanthric rites. more Attam Kettukazhcha during the Malayalam month of Meenam, and Bharani of the Malayalam month of Medam are special occasions. The famous Adavi ritual is observed once in every five years. The epic says that Palappallil Valiyachan Vellichapadu has brought the Bhagavathy from Kodungalloor. People belonging to various religions and communities worship here and believe that they get immediate results for their prayers.
