In Kerala, there are only a handful of temples dedicated to the Navagrahas, the nine planets. This temple, located in Thripunithura, shares its compound with the Chakamkulangara Siva Temple, which originally belonged to the Cochin Royal family. The inception of the Navagraha temple can be traced back to astrological consultations conducted when family members faced challenges in one of their residences. Following the advice received during these consultations, the Navagraha temple was initially consecrated on an open-sky platform. Subsequently, a proper temple structure was erected. Notably, this temple does not feature any subordinate deities. Even after the Siva temple was handed over to the Devaswom board, more the Navagraha temple remained under the administration of the Palace Administration Board. It was later transferred to the Oraayma Devaswom Board. Devotees visit this temple to seek blessings and alleviate the influences of the planets believed to impact their lives.
