Puthiyakavu Sree Bhagavathi Temple holds numerous legends about Goddess Bhadradevi and its consecration. Positioned in the centre of an expansive ground to the north of the renowned Ekadashi Perumthrikovil Siva temple and north of the historic Vendanadu village, the temple has a rich history. In ancient times, an Annapoorneswari temple graced the site, with a Kodumkali temple to the northwest and the residence of Namboodiri Manthattillam to the southwest of Annapoorneswari temple. The Manthattillam family, responsible for the temple rituals, faced an unfortunate incident where a young member was devoured by Perumkali. Due to the fear surrounding Perumkali's temple, no one dared to traverse the area more alone. One day, the son of Manthattillam had to pass by for a function in another Mana and fell victim to Perumkali. Distraught and enraged, the father vowed that after the boy's last rites on the forty-first day, either he or the Goddess would survive. He went to Kodungaloor, prayed, and received a divine dream. The Goddess instructed him to find a stone in a pond the next morning, and wherever he consecrated it, her presence would be felt. Following the dream's guidance, the Namboodiri acquired the stone and started towards his house. Valanthuruthy Bhattathiri witnessed this and followed. Upon reaching the Puthiyakavu ground, the Namboodiri asked Bhattathiri to hold the stone while he went for a break. Bhattathiri warned him that if he didn't return after three calls, he would leave the stone. When the Namboodiri didn't return, Bhattathiri immersed the stone in the pond and consecrated it at the nearby Annapoorneswari temple. Within three days, the Goddess manifested and eliminated the malevolent force in the Perumkali temple, bringing peace and prosperity to the region.
