Chendankulangara Sree Krishna Swamy Temple

History

Chendankulangara Sree Krishna Swamy Temple is an ancient temple with a history spanning over 1000 years. Originally owned by Chendan and his family, the temple derives its name, Chendankulangara, from this association. The temple is in front of a large pond, covering around 80 cents of land, referred to as "kulam" in the Malayalam language. This name, Chendankulangara, combines Chendan and the pond, reflecting the temple's origins. Initially, the temple was owned by the 'Edappally Palace (Swaroopam)' but is currently managed by the 'Kerala Kshetra Samrakshana Samithi,' which has established a local committee for day-to-day administration. The temple houses a beautiful idol of 'God Sree Krishna,' and its more architecture follows the ancient and typical Kerala Temple style. The serene and eco-friendly natural environment surrounding the temple is a major attraction. Chentangulangara Srikrishna Temple, associated with the Edappally royal dynasty, worships Lord Vishnu in the form of Chaturbahu as the main deity. With the decline of the Ilangallurswarupam (Edapalli dynasty), the temple came under the care of the Kshethrasamrakshanasamithi in 1981. Extensive restoration work took place in 1991, and the temple regained its lost vitality, culminating in a reconsecration ceremony in 1998.
