Sree Udayarkunn Bhagavathy Temple

History

Udayarkunnu Bhagavathy Temple stands as a significant religious site with its primary deity being Bhagavathy. This temple is affiliated with the Mannarkkad Nair Veedu (Kunnathu Madampu Swaroopam) lineage, historically recognized as the Samanthas of the Valluvanad Raja. Conveniently located less than a kilometre away from Mannarkkad Town along the Palakkad-Kozhikkode national highway, the temple is approximately 40 km from Palakkad and 29 km from Perinthalmanna. The primary deity of the temple is Thirumandhamkunnu Bhagavathi. About a decade ago, the original Daru vigraha was replaced with a sila vigraha. One of the temple's notable traditions is the 'Kanhiparcha,' which occurs on the seventh day of the Pooram festival, more also known as VALIYA AARATTU. The inception of the Kanhiparcha is credited to the MOOPPIL NAIR, symbolizing the harmonious relationship between the Adivasis of Attappadi and the Mooppil Nair community. The temple's cultural significance extends to the cinema, as evidenced by the song "Markazhiyil Mallika poothaal Mannarkkad Pooram" featured in the film 'PONNI,' highlighting the temple's Pooram festival. Positioned to face the west, the temple is situated near the Kunthipuzha River. Among the various offerings presented at the temple, 'Chathurssatham nivedyam' stands out, particularly on Pooram days. The Kalampattu and Muttarukkal Mangalya pooja, dedicated to Lord Ganapathy, hold significant importance in the temple rituals.
