Chamravattam Sree Ayyappa Temple

History

Chamravattam Shri Ayyappa Temple is steeped in mythology, with tales suggesting that Parashurama initially established the Prathishta of the swayambhu shila. Subsequent to this, Sabari Maharishi is said to have rediscovered this sacred murti and commenced its veneration. Tradition holds that Sabari Maharishi's ashram once stood nearby, lending the region its earlier name, Shambara Vattam, which later transformed into Chamravattom. Located approximately 13 km from Tirur within the Malappuram district, the Chamravattom Ayyappa Temple occupies a distinctive position, set amidst the confluence of two branches of the Bharathapuzha River. This revered temple holds a place of prominence among the 108 Sastha temples scattered throughout Kerala. Its significance resonates more in the Thottam Pattu (Ayyappan Theeyattu Pattu), an ancient narrative that chronicles the 108 Ayyappan Kavukal present within the state of Kerala.
