Thirunettur Mahavishnu Temple

History

Located about 5km north of Vyttila in Ernakulam, the Nettoor Mahavishnu Temple is intertwined with legends and sits adjacent to the Nettur Mahadeva Temple within the same compound. Both temples share a parallel historical narrative. Recent discoveries, including inscriptions on its sanctum steps, link the temple to the Kalkarai royal lineage. Ancient Thrikkakara records indicate that the Kannan Peraiyan tribe once governed the coastline stretching to Cherthala. Dating back to before the 12th century, these documents shed light on the temple's administration and suggest its construction spanned from the 9th to 12th centuries. Its architectural details echo its venerable past, underscoring its profound historical and cultural importance.
