Kuthapady Sree Dharmasastha Temple

History

Kuthappadi Sree Dharmasastha Narasimhamurthi Temple, located in Ponnurunni, Ernakulam, carries a rich legacy dating back over 800 years. Historically owned by the Cheraneloor Kartha family, this revered site is primarily dedicated to Dharmashastha, although Shastha serves as a sub-deity. Intriguingly, tales narrate the presence of a Vishnu temple adjacent to a vast pond. Tensions between Shaivaites and Vaishnavites culminated in the Vishnu temple's demise, leading to the creation of a sprawling 60-cent pond. However, in 2013, following astrological guidance, this pond was filled, revealing a potent Salagrama imbued with Narasimha Moorthy’s essence. This sacred relic was enshrined in a newly erected temple on the same grounds. Presently overseen more by the Cochin Devaswom Board, the temple maintains its ancestral connections, as senior members of the Cheraneloor Kartha family remain integral, participating in the temple's pivotal rituals and ceremonies.
