This temple is situated at Pallikunnu in Kannur. This temple is believed to be more than 2500 years old. The ancient inscription made on copper plates at the Chirakkal Palace shows that the Kings of Kolathiri used to submit their sword, the insignia of their power, at this temple before the coronation. This is one of the few Vishnu temples where the Ekadashi festival is celebrated simultaneously with the Guruvayoor temple. Mahavishnu is consecrated here in the Cosmic form. During the festivals at the Katalayi Sree Krishna temple and Pallikunnu Sree Mookambika temple, the deities are brought to the Kanathoor Mahavishnu temple which shows the
more importance of this temple.
