This temple is believed to have been established by a Yogeeshwara about 3000 years ago. The deity is consecrated in the water that oozes out of the earth. The sanctum stands open to the sky with the idol receiving the sun and the rain. In 1991 as a part of the renovation of the temple, a roof was constructed leaving a hole for the sun and the rain to fall on the idol. The name of the temple was changed from Ayyappa temple to Vanashastha temple in 2011 after astrological consultations. There is a garden behind the temple and a
more pond where the level of water remains the same at all times. Dakshinamoorthy is believed to be present in the sanctum as the preceptor of Shastha. There is a sanctum for Vettaykkorumakan and the idol of the Yogeeswara is consecrated under the tree where he is believed to have sat in penance. The temple is under the registered society named Kottukulangara Devaswom.
